The Mysteries of Rúne - The Three Chiefs of Glas

The City of Shattered Glass is built at the foot of an active volcano. The city is split among various clans that are fiercely loyal to their own and only mingle begrudgingly during the day.

At the city's heart lies the bustling commercial hub, where one can find anything from exquisite glassware to precious metals and minerals. The marketplace is chaotic and lively, with vendors shouting and haggling over prices and customers weaving their way through the crowds.

The ever-present threat of the volcano looms, and eruptions can occur at any time, causing widespread destruction and chaos. Despite this, the people of Glas take great pride in their city and are fiercely protective of their way of life.

- Clans -

Clan Aetós is the oldest of the three clans, led by their chief, Balthazar Aetós. The Aetós are skilled craftsmen and miners who extract the finest metals and minerals from the volcano's heart.

The second is Clan Galanis, led by their chief, Aster Galanis. Galanis is renowned throughout the city for its exquisite glassware, which is highly prized for its beauty and craftsmanship.

The youngest is Clan Marinos, led by their chief, Castor Marinos. Marinos is a fiercely independent and rebellious clan whose utmost prize is their freedom. They are skilled hunters and trappers and often venture into the wilderness to gather rare herbs and other resources. They are explosive experts with fireworks displays that are the highlight of any festival.

- Locations -

The Glass Palace is a magnificent structure that is the seat of power for the Clan Galanis. The palace is made entirely of glass.

The Emberwood is the forest that surrounds the city of Glas and is prone to frequent wildfires that cause the dark-hearted trees to grow rather than burn up. Clan Marinos often venture into the Emberwood to hunt, gather resources, and practice their skills as woodsmen. Emberheart wood has to be fully immersed in water to be shaped and carved due to its ever-burning nature.

The Volcano’s heart at the center of Glas is both a source of danger and wealth for the city. Clan Aetós mines the volcano for its valuable minerals and metals; Clan Marinos uses its black powder to create fireworks displays and other forms of entertainment.

Griffin's Leap is a treacherous cliff that overlooks the city of Glas and is considered a rite of passage for young halflings. Legend has it that those who successfully jump from the Griffin's Leap and land safely in the lake below will have good luck for the rest of their lives. This is also the only place in the Onyx Territories where one can find the elusive Dragonbloom flower. Believed to be grown in the soils of dragon and phoenix bones to create a flower that will grow even through flowing magma.

- Spire Homes -

The volatile nature of living at the base of a volcano has molded very particular architecture due to safety regulations. Each market is made up of various tents and temporary stalls, the streets are dirt and ash, and the homes are made of pure glass spires. These are blown volcanic glass that form a bubble pocket that shifts and changes as the home experiences storm after storm. The thick glass walls melt and thicken with the ash and rock that flow down the molten rivers. This is a wonder to behold, but few outsiders have been welcomed into a Spire to see this wonder.

- Rivalries -

The denizens of Glas, as expected, hold fierce rivalries. No clan looks fondly upon intermarrying between the clans and even more so with outsiders. Each clan holds particular techniques for glasswork, each with its type of spire. House Glanis works these grand wonders of blown shapes and structures, creating various rooms and bubbles. House Aetós is the most private as they form stonework into the glass. Some have even created forges that they use during the eruptions to keep their work going. House Marinos forms wonderful colors and woodwork into their glass structures, expressing the stories and adventures they have taken.
