The Mysteries of Rúne - Faoi the Subterra
Deep beneath the west continent of Niccolo lies the City of Faoi. (Fay-oi) As you enter the city, you'll notice the intricate carvings adorn every corner, depicting the traditions and history of the Dragonborn, Orc, and half-giant Félor peoples.
The city's center is the Grand Thoroughfare, a bustling market where foreign traders gather to buy and sell goods. Here you'll find everything from rare magical components to exotic foods and fabrics carefully curated by the city's merchants.
Scholars gather in the Observatory District which lies in the upper layer of Faoi. Their observatories access knowledge and insights from research beyond the void and the magic found in the beyond.

The lower layer holds Trid, the heart of Faoi's industry. Skilled artisans work tirelessly to craft varied magical items.
These caverns are also home to many natural wonders such as the Inferno Falls, a stunning waterfall of molten lava that illuminates the undercroft of Trid. Below the grand thoroughfare also lies a forest known as the False Elm Woods, named for its distinctive petrified trees. These ancient elms frozen in time have stood for centuries, their bark and leaves replaced by stone.
Among the woods are the Lampa pools, filled with crystal-clear water illuminated by bioluminescent mushrooms that grow on the cave walls. These magical pools are said to cleanse the mind and body. At its center lies the Gleaming Loch, a dark and foreboding body of water surrounded by towering cliffs.

The royals are housed in The Astralor a grand structure made of smooth, gray stone. This was named after Queen Astra, the first queen of Faoi who decreed its construction. Its hallways are lined with banners and portraits of past rulers, leading to the throne room where the current King Kiril and Queen Trena sit on thrones of ivory adorned with craved gems of the dragons of old.
Celiot Vid Academy for Magic is the observatory district’s most prestigious school. The small building nestles into the city's edge. Its exterior is unassuming, but the intricate magical runes that line its halls steal many glances from students and visitors alike. Celiot Vid has recently lost its transmutation professor, an orcish man by the name of Ivan Estók.
Starweave Tailoring is a luxurious tailor's shop in the observatory district that deals in high-end fabrics and intricate embroidery. The shop is known for its exquisite gowns, formal wear, and custom-tailored suits and coats for the discerning gentleman.
The Dragonmead Brewing Co. is the most famous brewery in Faoi, located in the Grand Thoroughfare. They specialize in crafting the finest ales and meads in the city, and their Dragon's Breath Ale is said to be the best in all the land.
The Tranquility Amphitheater is a massive outdoor venue that hosts a wide variety of events, from music concerts and theatrical performances to the occasional sports match.
The Black Boar Tavern is a popular pub located in the Trid, overlooking the Inferno Falls. It is a favorite haunt of the local artisans, who come to unwind. The Black Boar is known for its hearty food, strong ale, and lovely outdoor tables overlooking the falls.
Built into the edge of the grand thoroughfare are the Quays. A set of ricketty skyship docks where many individuals pass goods and await their future journeys. This is where international shipments arrive via skyship.
The Relic Room is the most well-known adventurers' shop in the Grand Thoroughfare, owned by a Dragonborn named Dušan. The shop specializes in rare and exotic items. Known for his expertise in magical artifacts, Dušan is always happy to share his knowledge with other adventurers.

The Temple of Anáil rests in the Observatory District, a beautiful stone structure with spires that resemble nebulae. The Temple of Brionnú is located in the Craftsman's Quarter of Trid and is made entirely of iron, representing the god's love for forging. The temple rings with the sounds of hammers striking anvils and the heat of the forge.
Legend has it that Anáil and Brionnú were once close friends, but they had a falling out after a heated argument about the sun and the moon. Anáil argued on behalf of the stars and the moon, the many being the true rulers of the sky. The sun was merely an image of their strength. Brionnú held to the sun as the true ruler, and the stars were just there to complement their beauty.
Their argument eventually led to a duel. The battle was intense, and in the end, Anáil emerged victorious, but not without severe burns and injuries from Brionnú's maul. The two have been bitter rivals ever since, and their followers still live to this ideal.
Despite their conflict, both temples and their followers have a strong presence in Faoi. The city's leaders often turn to the temples for guidance.
